100x100/7: Kinaesthesia-A Transformative Sense.
Kinaesthetic skill crucial asset in improving singing. Also assists in achieving, and maintaining, elite performance.
Kinaesthesia, or proprioception, is sense of body’s movement and position: noticing feedback from body.
Can be developed; allows improvement of motor skills.
Yet, some young singers, and old pedagogues, perhaps reluctant to trust “feelings”, preferring “action instructions”-do this.
Kinaesthetic sense allows understanding, and stability, of resonant pharynx and buoyant torso (appoggio).
Try finding and noticing feel of lift at hard/soft palate boundary, throughout vowel row, to stabilise resonance.
Try noticing buoyant feeling in torso throughout long phrase to stabilise breath flow.
Noticing different from doing.
