100x100/13: Resounding Consonants

Consonants: expressive sounds whose formation must not inhibit resonance.

To learn:

Target chiaroscuro; seek consonants that don’t spoil it. Strong targeting constructively constrains consonant articulation, revealing alternative coordinations.

Do this, rather than attempt self-directed manipulation of lips and tongue: self-made consonants sound unnatural.

Consonants key part of onomatopoeic words, contain emotions, actions, objects. Use early, vivid consonants to enhance urgent communication.

Misguided legato imagery mustn’t slur consonants into incoherent mush. Consonants are always quick, unless linguistic or expressive demands insist otherwise.

Distinct, stable vowels hem crisp consonants: semi-nasals must impart no nasality to their surrounding vowels.

Resonant consonants transform singing.
